A imagem de capa deste fascículo da Revista Ciência Elementar é uma das obras mais famosas Johannes Vermeer (1632–1675), inicialmente conhecida por Rapariga com turbante, mas popularizada como brinco pérola — provavelmente pelo impacto visual desse ponto brilhante no centro imagem. Na verdade, admite-se hoje ser pouco provável que se trate pérola: dadas as dimensões e os reflexos pintados Vermeer, deverá tratar-se esfera vidro ou, talvez, prata.
